[HOW TO] Enable Perfmon for Troubleshooting - Windows XP

Steps to setup Perfmon data collection for troubleshooting.

1) Open Perfmon (Start -> Run -> Perfmon)

2) Click on “Performance Logs and Alerts”

3) Click on “Counter Logs”


4) Right click on the same and click on “New Log Settings”

5) Give the log a name


6) Click on “Add Counters” and add as per below:

Performance Object – Process

Counters that need to be selected are:

- %Processor time

Handle count

- Thread count

- Virtual bytes

- Virtual bytes peak

- Working set

- Working set peak

The instances that need to be selected for each of the counters will be Mailnow, Python, Pythonservice#1, Pythonservice (all python service)

Make sure click Add once you selected the counter and instances for each of the counters


7) Click on the “Log Files” tab - Change the log file type to Text File (Comma delimited) - .csv and choose "End file names with" to YYYYMMDD

8) You can change the log file location by clicking on the “Configure” button

9) Click on the “OK” button to create the log

10) Then right-click on the Log and click on “Start” to begin the logging

11) Right-click on the log file and click on “Stop” to end the logging if you wish to stop it
