How to know the Anti-spam is updated

The easiest way is to compare the engine and database definition pattern date through MailNow 5 Web Admin, System Setting | Antispam and the definition info that published on InternetNow web-site. Refer to following link.

Normally a new engine is released on daily basis while the database definition is released a few times a month. Most of the information needed to filter spam is in the engine. While the database just provide some supplementary information of local Malaysian spam.

Possible reason why MailNow! 5 Anti-Spam is not updated.

Policies restriction - Blocked by Firewall, Proxy or others Internet Security System. To confirm the system is not blocked, you may try to download the update definition manually through browser from the mail server itself. Note that different machine has different configurations, therefore testing at the server machine is recommended. Additionally, the processes of mailnow.exe and python.exe should be allowed from any security program.

Update Scheduler – By default, the Anti-spam update schedule has been predefined to 15 minutes for one update transaction. For some special reasons, the scheduler might be missing or the duration of update is modified. To confirm this, you may check the scheduler setting under MailNow! 5 Web Admin, System Setting | Scheduler | Antispam Update.

**NOTES**

Please make sure MailNow! 5 is applied with latest version before proceed to troubleshooting steps. Check again the Anti-Spam status 1 hours after the version has upgraded.

How to fix Anti-Spam Database not updating

If your problem is not caused by any of the above, you may try the following:

  1. Stop MailNow 5 Service.

  2. Download mailnowupdate.pyc and replace it under MailNow directory/SE folder.

  3. Start MailNow 5 Service.

  4. Wait for 10 minutes (assuming that you have a relatively fast Internet connection) and check again the Anti-Spam definition status.

How to manually update Anti-Spam Engine

If all fails, and you urgently need to update your Anti-Spam engine to the latest version, follow the steps below:

  1. Download http://www.internetnow.com.my/download/mailnowupdate/v4/vreng.zip

  2. Stop MailNow 5 Service.

  3. Extract vrcpp.dll from the ZIP file downloaded and replace it with the one under MailNow directory.

  4. Start MailNow 5 Service.
